JippyTalk ("we", "our", "us") values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how you can manage your data when using JippyTalk.
Data we collect
Personal information — provided by you
Required to create your account. Encrypted at rest on our servers.
A username you choose to identify yourself in JippyTalk.
An optional profile picture you upload. Encrypted at rest and never stored as a public URL or raw binary.
A short status or "about" message you can set for your profile.
Contacts
To help you find friends on JippyTalk, we access phone numbers from your device's address book.
Contacts are hashed locally on your device before uploading — we never receive or store raw, unhashed contacts. Hashes are only used to match with existing users.
Data generated through app usage
Collected and displayed to your contacts.
Provided by Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications to your device.
End-to-end encrypted. All messages (text and emojis) are encrypted using the Signal Protocol. Only you and the recipient can read them.
Not stored on servers. Messages remain only on the sender's and recipient's devices. Delivered messages are cleared from our servers immediately.
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs and performance data, and Firebase Analytics to understand usage trends and improve performance.
Analytics data may include device identifiers (e.g. app-instance ID), operating system, and approximate location (based on IP). This data is not linked to your phone number, username, or messages.
How we use your data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core functionality of JippyTalk — account creation, messaging, and more
- Ensure secure, end-to-end encrypted communication
- Help you discover contacts who also use JippyTalk
- Deliver push notifications
- Monitor app performance, fix bugs, and improve features
Data security
We take strong measures to safeguard your data:
All data is encrypted using HTTPS and the Signal Protocol.
Phone numbers and profile pictures are encrypted when stored.
Access is strictly limited to authorized personnel who require it for their job functions.
Data deletion
You have full control over your information.
- Account deletion. You may delete your account at any time. This removes your phone number, username, profile picture, status, contacts, and last seen from JippyTalk's servers.
- Messages. Since JippyTalk does not store messages on servers, they remain only on the devices of you and your recipients.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted in the app and will include a revised "Last Updated" date.
